8 Tips for International Travel

As you prepare for your vacation to Fiji and other international destinations, you should make sure that you are fully prepared for the adventure. Having the most enjoyable vacation requires more than just ordering your tickets and packing your bags, and at Namale, we want you to have the best possible experience. This is why we are offering these popular tips for international travel, which you can try the next time you’re planning a trip abroad!

1. HAVE A FUN-FILLED ITINERARY

Every country has a never-ending list of activities and adventures that you can participate in! Fiji, for example, has numerous local activities that you can enjoy. Here are a few that we offer:

  • Spa & Massage
  • Manicure & Pedicures
  • Off Shore Recreation
  • On Shore Recreation
  • Cultural Entertainment
  • Delicious Cuisine

2. GRAB HOTEL OR RESORT BUSINESS CARDS

If you ever get lost, you can always refer to the business card of the hotel or resort that you are staying in. Although most locations across the world speak English today, if there is a language barrier, you can simply show the business card to a taxi driver or local and they can help you get back to where you need to be.

3. LOCATE ATMS

It’s not uncommon for travelers to spend their cash quickly or to forget about foreign currency conversion rates altogether. Talk to your financial institution to see if they have any brick-and-mortar locations abroad, go by a different name or what charges may occur if you need to take money out from an ATM. And once you arrive, ask where an ATM is available for use, just so you can withdraw cash in case of an emergency.

4. NOTIFY YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION(S)

Banks and other financial institutions are structured to help identify and prevent fraudulent use of your credit cards. If traveling with your card, it’s critical that you inform your bank about where you will be staying. If you do not, your bank my flag your card as “stolen” and lock you out of using it when you need it most.

5. PREPARE ALL MEDICINE

If you have any medical conditions, you want to have more than enough medication possible for your entire trip and then some, just in case you end up staying a few extra days. It’s better safe than sorry.

6. STAY INFORMED ABOUT TRAVEL ALERTS

You can visit your state department’s website for travel warnings, alerts and advisories. This will help you to make more informed decisions as you’re traveling internationally.

7. VISIT FOREIGN WEBSITES

Occasionally you can visit the website of the country you are planning to visit to find an even better deal on travel options within the country itself. Local travel companies may mark up their prices and you can instead use your destination’s services to get a better rate on train fare, subways or boats. Even if you can’t understand the language, basic translating services (like Google) can help you navigate.
